When to visit Nyerere National Park

So, when is the best time to visit Nyerere National Park ? The dry season of July through October is the best time of year for the greatest overall concentrations of game in this park when wildlife congregates around the lakes. However, do not underestimate this park at any other time outside the rainy season of April & May as game viewing is very good in various areas throughout the year. December through February is a lovely time to visit too and is known as the Green Season, when the scenery is lush and green. February is a great time to see young being born with birding during this time of year being absolutely world class. The average temperatures in Nyerere National park vary very little. Considering humidity, temperatures feel hot for most of the year with a low chance of precipitation most of the year. The warmest time of year is generally mid to late November where highs are regularly around 92°F (33.3°C) with temperatures rarely dropping below 70.5°F (21.4°C) at night. The Park experiences bimodal rainfall season and the short rains fall in November and December and are followed by a partial drying out in January and February. Thereafter, the long rains follow ending in early May.

Daytime temperatures range close to 30°C/86°F, while night and early mornings average 22°C/72°F. March and April are the rainiest months. Most days are wet, although it hardly ever rains for the entire day. The average maximum temp is usually 28°C/82°F and the minimum 21°C/69°F. Most days are full of sunshine and have a clear sky. Afternoon temperatures are usually around 28°C/82°F. Night temperatures drop to about 19°C/66°F. Beginning of the Wet season, although the exact start is hard to predict. Rainfall tends to be occasional and short (mostly in the afternoon) and probably won't hinder your safari.

c. Transportation: Depending on which mode of transport you prefer either flying or going by road, it will affect the cost. Flying to Nyerere is more expensive compared to travelling by road. For road transport, there are normally two types of vehicles that are used for safaris i.e Toyota Landcruisers or safari tour vans that carry upto 7 persons. Note that the landcruisers are more expensive than the tour vans but more comfortable. You hardly feel the rough road as you travel.
d. Type of accommodation: depending on your preference, you have an option to book for your accommodation either in lodges or tented camps. There are different classes of accommodation ranging from the very basic to midrange to the most luxurious depending on what you want.
e. Number of days on the safari: The cost for your safari is dependent on the number of days you are planning to be on safari. The more days you stay, the more you pay.
